Silver Rupee of Shaha Jahan – II bears his birth name, not his title as an Emperor! Rafi ud-daula aka Shah Jahan II was the 11th Emperor of Mughal dynasty. Coins of Rafi-ud-Daula bear the name “Shah Jahan” which he adopted on becoming the Mughal emperor. However, very few coins from the Ajmer mint are known to have his birth name Rafi-ud-Daula making this silver Rupee an Extremely Rare coin.The obverse of the coin bears the birth name of the king on the top and illahi date at bottom. The reverse side bears the reignal year, mint name along its epithet – “Dar – Ul – Khair Ajmer. King Shah Jahan II ruled for Three months, he was killed in August 1719. Even during his short reign he gave an important contribution to coinage of Mughals
This coin of Shah Jahan II of Very Fine + condition is going to be auctioned on 23-Sep-2016, Mumbai by Todywalla Auctions for the Hammer bid price of INR 3,00,000.
